Also, I read this thread once way back before our Technika was online, and have since been very conscious about keeping sanitary. Except then I once sneezed between songs and felt unable to play with the hand I'd covered my mouth with for the rest of my set. XD

I work in an arcade in Brisbane and we use Mr Sheen to clean and polish the touch surface for Technika. It cleans off any markings, finger prints, dried sweat, etc... and leaves it dust free (the dust seems to slide off the polish). It's ammonia free and leaves a shiny and smooth feel. We use water diluted with metho for most almost everything else in the store. It's so painful having to go down to the TimeZone here and seeing it has LAYERS of sweat/dirty/other shit build up on it. Thing is, their machine is right next to the change/prize booth. I don't get it.

Oh, and worst I've seen is someone waving a big mac over the machine and dripping the sauce on the monitor while I'm running back to get the Mr Sheen to wipe it for them. Wasn't happy. And yes, we also have a no drinks or food policy that people seem to miss all the time despite our many many signs around the store.

I've read that Technika is driven on infrared light being pumped into the glass panel as well. Doesn't mean that you don't take care of the touch surface. For my third year project in uni a couple of years ago, I constructed a multitouch screen (don't know if it's actually the same technology but it may be similar) similar to Technika's touch surface. The key to making it work was having a compliant surface that allowed a camera (with an infrared filter over it) to pick up the infrared light that concentrates around anything that gets close enough to the surface (which is why you can still get a response without actually touching the screen).

This is probably why it's bad to leave the machine where any sunlight can get to it. It should decrease the sensitivity of the monitor (who would leave the machine out in the open anyway, right?).

If the compliant surface is actually on top of the glass panel, then any harsh chemicals can rapidly deteriorate it hence weakening the sensitivity and responsiveness.

If you search on youtube for "DIY touch screen" or "DIY multi touch screen", you'll find stuff that people have documented. The theory behind it is actually pretty simple (yes, this is a way you can actually construct your own Technika machine without having to purchase touch monitors that people seem to be doing lately).

Yeah, regular cleanings end up in a better game for the user, because it's cleaner or something psychological I don't know. It's easier to slide around when it's dirty though.

Oh you get that too, people ignoring store no food/drink policy. Most people adhere to the no food one, but the no drinks one is pretty much ignored - there's a Hungry Jacks in the same building, free drinks eh? Though from what i've seen most people behave themselves, haven't seen a lot of spills, and none on the Technika Machine. Usually if one of the regulars (or staff) see somebody playing and with open drinks, they'll tell the person to stash it on the back of the machine or on the floor, so when it falls it'll only fizzle the carpet.

Yeah... most are well behaved but every now and then you'll get some retard coming in (sometimes drunk since there's a pub downstairs) annoying customers. Failed Supersonic SP after telling some guy off for touching the screen... luckily the security know me and just came up during their rounds. He was then promptly thrown out of the center.

I find it easier to slide when the screen is nice and clean. Depends who it is though. There's a guy who comes in who always has sweaty hands (not anything disgusting.. he just happens to sweat heaps) who always seems to struggle on the slides.. Neither of us are great at the game so it's not like missing a couple of notes here and there is really a big deal for us.

It's actually a little weird reading back on these forums. A lot of people get pissed off if they get a cool during a PP run... meanwhile I'm happy just not failing the mission/set. There's only a couple of guys here (Brisbane, Australia) who are that good.

well tbh after spending .. i dunno, $300+ (oh god how much did .RAN use) or something, youd expect us to be at a level where we shouldnt be missing anything 'easy'

but on topic, yeah most people are behaved and i really havent seen anyone actually eating anything BIG that would drip or could cause a massive mess, the biggest ive seen is a packet of chips
however drinks are pretty much FFA, just not stored above screen height really. anywhere below screen height is fine, a drop is non-fatal

Pet peeve: Our store is next to the cinema... popcorn... slightly buttered... and salted.

Another pet peeve: Little shits coming in and slapping the screen with one dirty hand and the other on their ear like they are DJs (this happens a lot more on beatmania of course).

Yeah... Albert St. I've spoken to Andrew a few times but not much about Technika. A lot of players do complain but it does get wiped if they ask the staff to do so.

Cheers, I've passed on a message to him. It shouldn't get to the state where customers have to request it get cleaned unless the staff can't get in edge-wise because it is so busy

Our store is split up into three sections (very annoying) and I still manage to hover around all the games (Technika slightly more since it's subject to idiots slapping the screen etc...) to check if anything amiss. Anyway, that should make the players stop complaining a little.

There are cameras but it's easier to just stand there. Most of the time, people already know the rules and just wanna go in while you're not watching.

Can you refocus your cameras? Our cameras were a little blurry too. I thought it was the quality but they're fine now.
